Description
Until the opening of the Yonekawa base on
April 30, Caritas distributed relief supplies in
the Minami-Sanriku area. Even though there
were mountains of relief supplies at evacuation
centers, that did not mean that people could fi nd
what they needed. For example, simple items
like children’s umbrellas were not available. In
addition, children passing through piles of debris
on their way to school needed safety helmets.
As the weather warmed up and the danger of
food poisoning increased, disposable tablewear
was essential because there was no water to
wash dishes. Caritas was able to respond to
these needs.
