Description
Compared with other tsunami-affected areas, aid
was slow in reaching off shore islands. Consequently,
residents decided that they must reconstruct
their lives on their own. Caritas has joined them
in that effort. One event in that endeavor was a
Summer Festival, a traditional Japanese festival
to remember the dead. It was an opportunity for
Caritas to develop ties with the local population
by uniting with them in an activity that restored
communal ties. Caritas was involved in all aspects
of the festival, including planning, setting up kiosks
and sponsoring fi reworks.
