Description
Unlike places that were totally washed away
by the tsunami, in Shiogama homes where lower
fl oors had been fl ooded could be made habitable
again. Because the damage was light compared
to other places, the town did not draw much
media attention or many volunteers. Therefore,
Caritas volunteers went around to such homes
to shovel out muck, remove debris, and share tea
and talk with residents with the aim of building
up a sense of solidarity in rebuilding their lives.
